Research plan 01: Floodplain forests: management from the viewpoint of sustainable development

Supervisor: prof. Ing. Jiří Kulhavý, CSc.

Basic information

This page shows details on the project. The primary projects are displayed together with a list of sub-projects.

Project description:
Floodplain forest ecosystems represent one of the most valuable forest biomes in Europe. They are rightly considered to be the part of European natural heritage. Research will be particularly aimed at floodplains of the Morava, Dyje and Odra rivers belonging to unique natural phenomena. Their singularity is also given by their inclusion among Ramsar localities and MAB-UNESCO biosphere reserves. Wide alluvial plains and floodplain forests are subject to long-time anthropogenic stress. Preservation of the natural environment and all its biotopes in balance is the priority issue of the present period. Assessing the effectiveness of revitalization measures in the landscape and optimization of forest management in terms of sustainable development of the special interest region appear to be inevitable.
