|Project description:||Project includes: •Compilation and assessment of existing approaches to classification 1.Conduction of a comprehensive inventory and assessment of all of the diverse ecosystem classifications existing for the forest and woodlands of the Intermountain West 2.Compiling an electronic archive of available documentation (published and gray literature) for each classification and complete an assessment of how the various classifications compare with respect to approach (e.g., based on existing versus potential natural vegetation) and coverage (e.g., regional or specific to a given National Forest). •Assessment using FIA database 1.Assessment of current ecosystem classifications using the FIA database 2.Characterization how FIA plots are associated with specific classifications 3.Compiling an inventory of both common and rare habitat types and community types, as reflected by FIA plots, with respect to geographical and administrative location 4.Assessment some of the fundamentals underlying ecosystem classification|
