Title of the thesis:Regional convergence of EU states
Summary:The Bachelor thesis deals with the convergence of regional development in the Czech Republic and surrounding countries between 1997 and 2008. There is used Beta and Sigma convergence concept to assess the process of convergention. The level of development for each NUTS region is identified through GDP index per capita based on purchasing power parity. Although all considered states are EU members, which have already conducted the regional policy that focuses on a decrease in interregional disparity, the drift towards divergention processes was discovered. In Poland and Slovakia, the divergention process has been occurring for the whole period of time. Since 2002 the Czech Republic has had a tendency towards convergention. As for Austria, the situation is reverse to others, where the convergention has switched to divergention processes since 2004. Germany is the only country where we can conclude a decrease in interregional differences and undergoing convergention for the whole period.
Key words:regional policy, GDP, regional development, NUTS, convergention
