Aim of the course and learning outcomes:
To offer students basic background about the historical development of world and regional economic integration leading to process of globalisation in recent times. Special attention is given to all aspects of membership of the Czech Republic in EU.
 
Course content:
1.
Long term trends in world economy - chalanges of 21st century (allowance 10/6)
 
a.
Historical motives of european integration, the changing role of hegemons
b.
Political systems - supranationl vers. international cooperation, principle of subsidiarity, democratic deficit of EU
c.
Position of EU in globalised economy - comparison with other regional groups

2.
Principles of european integration (allowance 10/4)
 
a.
Institucional and legislative system of EU
b.
EU policies and budget
c.
Stages of economic integration - free trade area, custom union, internal market, EMU

3.
Principles of world integration (allowance 8/4)
 
a.
Global security - role of UN and NATO vers. Common security and defence policy
b.Global economic integration - role of GATT, WTO, IMF, WB, convergence/divergence in the world economy - G8, BRICS, developing countries
c.Conflicts after cold war - changing roles of hegemons
