Aim of the course and learning outcomes:
The aim is to gain insight into the role and potential benefits of agriculture and its related activities in the entire chain of production, processing and distribution of products of agricultural origin in regional development. Students acquire knowledge about the theoretical foundations and practical implications of agribusiness, with the nature and context of globalization and integration processes in the agrarian sector, their influence on the new model of agriculture in global and regional contexts and assess the reflection of these changes in the concepts and effects of agricultural policy.
 
Course content:
1.
Globalisation and its impact on changes in the agrarian sector in the current stage of development (allowance 6/0)
 
a.Effect of specifics of agricultural production and consumption of food on the formation of agrarian markets; types of markets, actors, links, categories
b.
Models determined by the supply and the demand, effects and consequences in the regional context

2.
Theory of agribusiness, competitive environment and market structure, the principle of the commodity verticals and global food networks formation (allowance 6/4)
 
a.
Forms of coordination, the influence and optimization of transaction costs
b.Approaches to risk sharing / reduction in the framework of the commodity verticals
c.
Characteristics of subjects - a crucial companies in the global scene and the role and status of regional producers

3.
The economic consequences of the agribusiness formation in development of agriculture and its effects in a regional context (allowance 6/4)
 
a.
Development of agribusiness price levels, price transmission - principles and applications
b.
Changes in the development of commodity verticals, the formation of global networks, opportunities and status of companies in the region

4.
Agriculture and rural development strategy and the concept of the EU agricultural and structural policy (allowance 6/16)
 
a.
The theoretical background, principles and tools for solutions of support agriculture and rural development and its implementation in the EU CAP
b.
Agriculture in the EU Member States, comparison of the development within the critical commodity verticals

Assessment methods:
Condition for termination of the course is the successful presentation and defense of the analysis of the commodity study. The exam consists of parts of the written and oral, the result of a written part (test, 50 minutes, points 36 min, 60 max.) are the basis of the assessment (60 % of mark), oral examination forms 40% of the final evaluation.
