Aim of the course and learning outcomes:
Obtaining basic knowledge and skills in the field of surface treatment of wood and plastic furniture, gaining knowledge about the basic materials used in finishing furniture finishes. Gaining knowledge about procedures for application and curing of coatings, technological applications of coatings used in the finishing of furniture, including skills in their practical application. Nearby acquired knowledge are necessary skills for dealing with finishes of furniture , both in terms of selecting suitable materials, processes, methods of applying coatings, removal of potential defects resulting from finished surfaces. The basic introduction to the theory finishing finishes including knowledge and skills evaluation finishes .
 
Course content:
1.
Criterions of the coating systems, choosing of the wood finishing technology, surface wood as the surface for finishing, surface preparing (allowance 2/2)
2.
Staining, technology of staining, solvent and water borne based stains, colored lacquers (allowance 2/2)
3.
Coating materials,paints, lacquers, dividing of coating materials, charakteristic of coating materials (allowance 2/0)
4.The way of the coating films formation (drying, curing Uv curing) (allowance 2/4)
5.
Technology and quality properties of coating materials and their coating films (allowance 2/5)
6.The ways of finishing materials, the way of their applications, curing and drying (allowance 3/2)
7.
The representatives of solvent coating materials (lacquers and paints) determinate for furniture finishing (allowance 3/4)
8.
The representatives of water borne coating materials and the matter of fonishing (allowance 4/4)
9.
Powder coating materials and the method of the finishing wooden based materials by them (allowance 2/0)
10.
The coating materials of new generation , smart lacquers nad paints, antibacterial coating materials (allowance 2/2)
11.
Testing of finishing materials and the quality surface finished (allowance 2/4)
12.
Hygiene, ecology and safety finished surface (allowance 1/0)

Foils and laminates, their production, properties and their treatment (allowance 1/2)

Assessment methods:
The subject is successfully completed after completion of 11 laboratory, the submissions of reports from the laboratory exercises, and passing an oral examination. The oral examination consists from two issues. The first question is in the field of coatings used in finishing furniture and requirements of technology and the second surface finishing of furniture and the possibility of defects in finishing. Test to demonstrate basic knowledge and good orientation in the field of the furniture finishing.
