Aims of the course:
Aim of the course is to get the students acquainted with modern methods and managerial activities in preparation and realization of effective innovations, which represent one of the main sources of increasing competitiveness, commercial success, and overall business prosperity, and to teach them to use these methods in practice. The subject further introduces students with the interconnections between the current development of the business environment and still growing importance of quality and quality management in organizations. It presents the development of approaches to quality assurance and management, and specifics of these approaches for particular types of organizations and for particular industries. Students are also acquainted with selected techniques used for quality improvement.
Course contents:
1.Quality management (allowance 14/7)
a.Introduction - key terms, development trends, selected approaches (ISO 9000, QM, TQM, AGAP)
b.Legislative framework - legislative demands, state intervention, accreditation, certification, voluntary activities and their support
c.Quality - methods and techniques of improvements and optimization of quality (QFD, VA), methods and techniques of failure prevention, statistical methods of quality control - statistical process regulation, fundamentals of calculations of reliability; role of quality in current business, competitive advantage in costs, quality and price
d.TQM - principles,ISO 9000 vs. TQM, Deming, Juran, Ishikawa's QM, customer orientation, improvement, human factor in TQM, process management, quality as a factor of business success
e.ISO - general features, structure, demands on quality assurance in industrial businesses, service providers, and other institutions, role of management, quality in design, procurement, operations, storage, expedition and delivery; EFQM as an alternative of ISO, criteria of European Quality Award (EQA) modules.

2.Innovation management (allowance 14/7)
a.Introduction - key terms, innovation as a comparative advantage, innovation cycle, principles of innovations, types, classification of innovations, innovation sources, unexpected event, change, new knowledge, idea, discrepancies, demographic factors, methods of searching for innovation opportunities
b.Business culture supportive to innovations - creative thinking, creativity, development and support of creativity, methods of supporting creativity development, individual and collective creativity, barriers, lateral thinking, discoveries, inventions, protection of intellectual property, creativity determining factors, knowledge management, change management
c.Innovation management - strategic innovation management, time progress of innovation, innovation curves, planning, preparation of innovations, target markets, innovation concept, key elements, supporting innovation management, implementation, control
d.Innovation business plan - preparation of business plans, structure, foundations, documentation, presentation, implementation
e.Innovation centres - establishment and development, characteristics, classification, cathegorization and origin of ICs, scientific parks, IC in the Czech Republic, EU and others, accredited ICs, incubators for small and medium-sized entrepreneurs, their importance
f.Evaluation of innovation performance - quantification of innovation parametres, feedback, evaluation of realized innovations, comparisons of innovation performance, verification and standardization of solutions, effectiveness criteria and indicators, elementary and complex effect.

Assessment methods:
Oral examination consists of two parts, namely of the oral verification of theoretical knowledge and of discussion of the final project. (Evaluated by 40 + 60 points - max. 100 points.)
Student is classified based on points reached:
92 to 100 points "A" -- excellent
84 to 91 points "B" -- very good plus
76 to 83 points "C" -- very good
68 to 75 points "D" -- good plus
61 to 67 points "E" -- good
Less than 61 points "F" -- failed
