Aim of the course and learning outcomes:
The aim of the subject is to acquaint students with economic implications of globalization and integration processes in agrarian sector, with causes and impacts of agribusiness formation and their impact on the formation of a new model of agriculture within commodity verticals.
 
Course content:
1.
Globalization and its impact on agrarian sector development (allowance 2/2)
2.
The influence of production and food consumption specifics on formation of agrarian markets, market types, subjects, categories, models determined by demand and supply (allowance 2/2)
3.
Agribusiness, principles, concepts, definitions (allowance 2/2)
4.
Forms and implications of imperfect competition in agribusiness (allowance 2/2)
5.Commodity verticals and networks in agribusiness, market structure, approach to market power formulation (allowance 4/4)
6.Activity coordination, problems of contracts: approaches in term of ownership, transaction costs and risk sharing/restraint (allowance 4/4)
7.
The role of commodity exchange in agribusiness, specifics, world centres, exchange contracts, price creation and value of contracts (allowance 4/4)
8.
Possibilities of agrarian commodities dealing, ways of reinsurance against price changes (allowance 4/4)

Assessment methods:
The subject is terminated with verbal examination. Credit is given on the basis of student activity during tutorials, participation on discussions about particular topics and presentation of seminar paper. Students have to obtain the credit before examination.
