Aim of the course and learning outcomes:
Providing a set of knowledge about the theoretical foundations of design, construction principles, functions, operational, technological integration and work safety of technical equipment used at the main stages of forest production and primary processing of wood.
 
Course content:
1.
Introduction to the study, basic technical concepts, the importance and specifics of the techniques used in technology, forestry and primary wood processing, forestry machinery systematics, the main group of machines, specific production conditions. (allowance 2/1)
2.
Technique for natural and artificial forest regeneration, habitat preparation, soil preparation, planting seedlings, planting and care of grown vegetation in the landscape design principles, use of safety; technology for education and protection of forests and forest plantations, the technique of work safety. (allowance 2/1)
3.
Machines for logging and skidding of wood, construction of the main taxiway and working bodies, functional reliability and accuracy of the major functional groups, technical diagnostics, maintenance and repair. (allowance 2/1)
4.
Motor chain saw, their main components and distribution; technique work with chainsaw, safety felling, limbing and contraction. (allowance 2/1)
5.Technical diagnostics, maintenance and repair of chainsaws. (allowance 2/1)
6.
Machinery and equipment for air, water and long-distance land transport timber; safety. (allowance 2/1)
7.
Cable transport equipment for skidding; principles of principal cable systems, cable and cableway cranes, equipment and safety. (allowance 2/1)
8.
Technology (machinery and equipment) for use of biomass energy, wood disintegration. (allowance 2/1)
9.
The negative impacts of technology on the environment and mitigation methods; biodegradable fuels and lubricants, soil compaction, damage to land cover and root system of trees. Systems of wood processing. (allowance 2/1)
10.Wood stores in woodworking factories, types of stores, technology, income, protection and handling of logs. (allowance 2/1)
11.Handling and sorting lines at wood stores, measuring and sorting of wood. (allowance 2/1)
12.
Wood sawing, ways of logs sawing, their general characteristics. Principles of logs sawing . (allowance 2/1)
13.
Yield and reduction of lumber and plastering. (allowance 2/1)
14.
Caring for forestry and timber machines, collection and evaluation of operational data. (allowance 2/1)

Assessment methods:
• Development of 6 protocols individually assigned projects (range up to 5 pages).
• The summary essay (range at least 12 pages).
Completion of the course: presentation and defense of their work, checking on the written test (min. 70 points of max. 100 points) and oral examination.
