Aim of the course and learning outcomes:
To get know the round wood base, qualities of round wood and its primary preparation. To get know the way of sawn timber production, the carried out operations, their aim and way of realization, processing machines, mechanization. To know the sawn timber assortment, its properties, usage.
Course content:
Forests, their area, composition, wood stocks. Felling and round timber preparation. (allowance 2/1)
2.Log yards. Operations, their goal and realization. Technological and mechanization device. Layout of the log yards, organization of production, papers. (allowance 6/3)
Assortment of sawmill products. Types, dimensions and quality classes. Ways of quality classification. Quality and dimension sorting of the sawn timber. (allowance 2/4)
4.Log saving. Types of log sawing. Saving diagrams, yield of sawn timber, its optimization. (allowance 2/4)
Sawmills. Preparing of the logs before sawing. Frame, band and circular saws, chip canter, aggregate -- construction, properties, usage. Cutting and edging of side boards -- principles of operation realization, machinery. Layout of the sawmills -- operations, their order, correlations, workers. Waste -- its origin, volume, possibilities of processing, usage. (allowance 10/3)
Sawn timber yards. Sorting and storage of sawn timber. Adjustment of the sawn timber. Operations, their goal and realization. Technological device, mechanization, its types, properties, usability. (allowance 6/2)

Assessment methods:
Credit - elaborating and vindicate the tasks in the work (area: sorting of logs, operation executing, sawing diagrams, yield, sawn timber sorting).
Exam - oral with written (drawn) preparation. Student will receive 2 questions from the areas: technology of production, machinery, sorting and storage of sawm timber. While preparation time he can prepare the notices, drawing, ..., while the exam student has to explain the topics. The preparation takes approx. 25 minutes, the exam takes the same time. Both answers are equal for the evaluation, but exam is not successful, if student has no idea about one of topics.
