Aims of the course:
The goal of this class is to learn students these topics: Furniture strength design. Understanding interdisciplinary links within the furniture construction. Fundamentals, principles and axioms of mechanics. System of forces in plane and space, center of gravity, moments of inertia. Basic concepts, equations and theorems of elasticity, strength and plasticity. Loading of the furniture, his joints and construction. Mechanical testing of furniture.
Course contents:
1.Fundamentals, principles and axioms of mechanics (allowance 6/6)
2.Mechanical testing of furniture (allowance 4/4)
3.The principles of strength design of furniture (allowance 2/4)
4.Computational procedures for determining the stability and the basis of determining the dimensions of furniture (allowance 8/8)
5.Dimensioning of structural elements and connections (allowance 4/4)
6.Positive and negative examples of strength design of furniture (allowance 2/4)
Learning outcomes and competences:
Generic competences:
-Ability to apply knowledge

-Skilled at utilizing and processing information

Specific competences:
-Ability to apply economic thinking
-Expirience with design presentation
-Informative knowledge of wood materials, finished products, auxiliary materials, fittings and glass used for making furniture.
-Knowledge og the limit state method (Eurocode 5)
-Orientation in problems of the testing of furniture, use of and familiarity with relevant standards
-Realation knowledge of strength designing, furniture construction and other related topics
-The ability to use the acquired knowledge in practice
