Aim of the course and learning outcomes:
Information about trees and shrubs as living organisms, creating communities. Historical development and current tree and shrubs species communities in the Czech Republic. Possibilities of tree and shrub species for artificial replacement and communities (planting in urban areas, the areas of air pollution, riparian vegetation, strengthening fences, anti-noise and anti-dust fences, windbreaks, planting land reclamation, land reclamation), and forests. Teaching the practical recognition of domestic species and introduced species using morphological or anatomical characters, etc.. Emphasis is placed on the major habitat types, rare and protected species and weeds and invasive introduced tree species.
Course content:
Basic Dendrology (allowance 4/2)
Dendrology as part of biology. Responsibilities and role of Forestry Dendrology. Physiology of woody species. Life forms of woody species. The variability of the species. Ecological relationships of woody species in forest stands.
Introduction to Phytogeography. Chorology. Venues trees. Vegetation zonality. Deciduous broadleaved forests. Elevation vegetation zones.

Development of woody vegetation in holocene. The original species composition and future. (allowance 2/0)
3.Taxonomic overview of Gymnosperms and Angiosperms. (allowance 2/22)
Woody vegetation of CR (allowance 10/0)
Woods communities of floodplain forests and springs.
Woods communities of peat bogs. Natural pine forests.
Woods communities of thermophilous oak forests and forest-steppes.
d.Woods communities of deciduous forests of hills.
Woods communities of mixed and coniferous forests of mountains, the upper treeline and alpine zones.

5.Introduction, the practical importance of trees. (allowance 4/0)
History and importance of introduction trees and shrubs. The most common introduced species, with an emphasis on invasive and domesticated species. Southern Europe, Mediterranean, Middle East. Asia. North America.
The importance of trees to humans. Practical use, past and present.

Assessment methods:
- submission of a seminar work during the semester
- 3 written tests on the Latin names of species will be during the course (3 x 25 pictures, maximum points for each test is 100, minimum points to past test - 70 (in each test).

Credit - practical knowledge of tree species:
1. Broadleaves according to herbarium specimens (memorized all kinds of exercises)
2. Conifers - fresh branches (memorized all kinds of exercises)
3. Twigs in winter (Buds)
4. Cones, fruits and seeds of conifers and broadleaves
5. Wood with bark and bark
