Aim of the course and learning outcomes:
1) obtaining a basic overview of the system of plant organisms and fungi, including the importance of their role in ecosystems, 2) acquiring the ability to characterize the basic families of angiosperms of Czech flora and 3) practical knowledge of 320 predominantly forest species of vascular plants and knowledge of their ecological requirements.
Course content:
1.Phylogenetic system of lower and higher plants, fungi and bacteria. (allowance 2/2)
Bacteria, Cyanobacteria and Algae, their ecologic importance.
Fungi including lichens, their ecology and importance in nature.
Bryophytes and ferns focused on the important species.
Gymnosperms and angiosperms. Character set of most important families.
e.Significant ferns and seed plants as indicators of habitat.

Assessment methods:
The course ends with credit and exam. The credit is consisted of credit test (practical examination of knowledge of about 320 species of vascular plants; test must be done before applying for the exam), seminary work, 10 herbarium speciments, 60% success in small test during semester and 100% attendence of exercises and field trips.
The exam includes written and oral parts. Written test consists of a 50-minute test on two questions (one focused on systematics and the other on the characteristics of angiosperm families). In the oral part there is 1) practical identification of the most common forest vascular plants species and 2) examination of knowledge of their ecological requirements. At least 50% knowledge is required for all parts of the exam.
