Aim of the course and learning outcomes:
The goal is to gain knowledge in the field of agricultural economics and policy. Get an overview of basic economic characteristics of agriculture as industry in general, its role in regional development, shaping agricultural markets and their functioning in the basic models and structure of agribusiness. Identify critical factors shaping economic policy in agriculture and agrarian sector and its specific application within the CAP of the EU. To obtain the ability to apply knowledge of agricultural economy and politics in the context and dynamics of the agrarian markets, the ability to link the issues of the regional development and the agrarian policy. During the preparation and the presentation of commodity studies, students will be guided by the use of relevant data and other information sources and to the application of adequate methods and techniques for analysis and their presentation.
 
Course content:

Selected issues of agricultural economics and agribusiness (allowance 8/4)
 
a.The general characteristics of agriculture as an economic sector, specifics of agriculture and position of agrarian sector in the national economy
b.
Approaches to evaluation of the role of agriculture in development, production and multifuncional concept
c.
Agrarian markets, types of markets, integration processes, the basic patterns of development of contemporary agriculture and agrarian sector, agribusiness

2.Agricultural Policy as a part of economic policy - the general principles and context (allowance 8/4)
 
a.Theoretical background

Principles and forms of state intervention in the agrarian sector
c.
Economic analysis of basic and crucial forms and instruments of agrarian policy

3.Agriculture and food industry of the Czech Republic within the commodity and regional context of global and European markets (allowance 4/18)
 
a.

Explanation of basic indicators for analysis, methodical preparation for presentations
c.Presentation of commodity studies

4.
The EU Common Agricultural Policy, principles, development, reforms (allowance 8/2)
 
a.Economic context and background of the basic model of the CAP, the principles of choice and combination of instruments, effects and evaluation system

Reform processes, internal and external factors, changes in the concept of public engagement in agriculture
c.
Agricultural policy in the CR, access to the CAP implementation in terms of Czech agrarian sector

Assessment methods:
Oral examination that verifies the theoretical knowledge and the ability of their interpretation in the specific context of agrárního sector, region and renumeration. Condition for the grant-counting is a successful completion of a written test and a defense of seminar work-commodity studies-during the semester.
