Aim of the course and learning outcomes:
To acquaint with importance of vegetables in human diet, with scale of production in CZ and world. To acquaint with production systems in vegetables.
 
Course content:
1.Vegetable importance for human diet. Nutritive and antinutritive compounds. History and scale of vegetable production in CZ, EU, in world. (allowance 3/2)
2.
Vegetable origin, classification. Yield and biomass formation. Demands of vegetable to climate - temperature, light, water. (allowance 3/1)
3.
Demands for edaphic factors - soil, fertilization and nutrition. Use of plastics. Vegetable crops rotation, principles, benefits. (allowance 3/3)
4.
Integrated and organic cultivation systems of vegetable. Seed, quality assurance, preparation, pre-treatment. (allowance 3/2)
5.
Methods of planting preparation, keeping of young plants. Agrotechnical demands, direct sowing, planting, weeds limitation. (allowance 3/1)
6.
Harvest, postharvest processing of vegetables, market preparation - expedition, handling. Mushroom, oyster cultivation. Asparagus culture. (allowance 3/0)
