Aims of the course:
Detailed knowledge of macroscopic, microscopic, submicroscopic structure of wood, processes of wood formation, formation of wood defects and chemical composition of wood, including practical identification of wood on the base of macroscopic and microscopic features.

1.Macroscopic structure of wood -- principal planes, main and additional features (part 1) (allowance 2/6)

3.Cytology and histology basics (allowance 2/0)
4.Chemical composition of wood (allowance 2/0)
5.Wood anatomy -- softwoods and hardwoods (part 1) (allowance 2/6)
6.Wood anatomy -- softwoods and hardwoods (part 2) (allowance 2/6)
7.Wood structure variability (allowance 2/0)
8.Cell wall structure of wood (allowance 2/0)
9.Primary growth and primary stem structure (allowance 2/0)
10.Cambial activity and factors affecting wood formation (allowance 2/0)
11.Macroscopical and microscopical structure of bark and anatomy of monocots stem. (allowance 2/0)
12.Wood defects (allowance 2/2)
13.Reaction wood and juvenile wood (allowance 2/0)
14.Selected tropical wood species description (allowance 2/2)

- 2 tests during the course (max. 40 points for both tests, at least 22 points)
- practical test of wood identification -- macroscopic samples (at least 8 of 10 samples)
- practical test of wood identification -- veeners (at least 8 of 10 samples)
- practical test of wood identification -- microscopic samples (at least 3 of 4 samples)

- prerequisite: credit is compulsory for final exam participation
- form: e-test in University Information System
- duration: 35 min.
- number of questions: 50 where 3 of them must be absolutely correct
- test evaluation: min. 70 %
