Aims of the course:
In this course, students will learn about the structure of individual functional groups of motor vehicles. Attention is paid to understanding and mastering of general principles of functioning of individual mechanisms and their application in the most frequent types of motor vehicles. Their final knowledge should involve data about individual parts of functional groups (nodes) of motor vehicles, clutches, gear boxes (mechanic and hydrodynamic) etc.
Course contents:
1.Conceptual arrangement of the drive train of transport vehicles (allowance 2/2)
a.Cars, trucks and lorries, trailers
b.Regulations and standards concerning motor vehicles

2.Friction couplings (allowance 2/2)
a.Coupling design and calculation
b.Multi-plate, centrifugal and hydrodynamic couplings

3.Driving mechanisms gearboxes (allowance 6/6)
a.Determination of the range of gears
b.Automated stepped gearboxes
c.Gearboxes for cars and lorries

4.Transmission mechanisms (allowance 8/8)
a.Driving shafts and joints
b.Semi-automatic and automatic gearboxes
c.Hydrodynamic transmissions

5.Transmission mechanisms final gears (allowance 4/4)
a.Final drive housing
b.Differentials, self-locking differentials
c.Final gear

6.Body and ergonomy (allowance 4/4)
a.Operator's workplace from the viewpoint of ergonomy
b.Noise, vibrations

7.Systems of wheeled and tracked vehicles, steering geometry, and hydrostatic power steering (allowance 2/2)
a.Steering geometry
b.Management of tracked vehicles

-Ability to analyze technical data of motor vehicles
-Ability to evaluate the economical aspects of motor vehicles operation
-General understanding of operational value of different types of motor vehicles

-Knowledge of functional parts cosnstruction of the mechanism for power transmission

Assessment methods:
Compulsory attendance at exercises. Hand over and defense of protocols assigned during the semester. Final written and oral examination, a total duration 50 min.Written examination, calculation of given examples. To meet the requirements min. 70 points out of 100. Overall rating, the sum of points from written and oral at least 65%.
