Aims of the course:
The course deals with technical wooden objects, their historical evolution, the possibility of then knowledge, typologies, construction and material.
 
Course contents:
1.Introduction to Technical monuments. Type, scope, status, importance, care of them. Focus on wooden buildings, structures, parts (allowance 0/2)
2.Survey and documentation of technical monuments (allowance 0/2)
3.The historic building techniques, equipment and tools (jacks, pulleys, cranes, timber, ...). (allowance 0/2)
4.Wooden hydraulic engineering (winches, ducts, raceways, dams, basins, canals) (allowance 0/2)
5.Transport by water (rafts, boats and ships) (allowance 0/2)
6.Ways to drive the technical equipment (water and wind wheel, treadmills, horse engine) (allowance 0/2)
7.Transmission equipment and mechanisms (shafts, cog gear ...) (allowance 0/2)
8.Sawmills and their equipment (frame, band and circular saws, machinery, manufacturing processes) (allowance 0/2)
9.Water and wind mills (their equipment, manufacturing processes) (allowance 0/2)
10.Food Equipment (dryers for fruits, oil mills, boiling jam ...) (allowance 0/2)
11.Other technical equipment (mills, crushing mills, roller, bleach, ...) (allowance 0/2)
12.Mining activities (mining timber and transport, pumps, hoists) (allowance 0/2)
13.Transport (carts, cars, wagons) (allowance 0/2)

Assessment methods:
Submission of term paper dealing with an existing technical object, including technical drawings and wooden model of the object or participation on workshops about historical technologies and their use in present.
