Aims of the course:
Introducing the basic chemical materials to students, surface finished technologies by coating materials, application of adhesives, wood stain, ecology, curing of coating materials, adhesives and plastics applied in wood treatment and furniture industry
 
Course contents:
1.Finishing materials, foils (allowance 6/18)
 
a.Criterions of the coating systems, choosing of the wood finishing technology, surface wood as the surface for finishing, surface preparing
b.Staining, technology of staining, solvent and water borne based solvents, colored lacquers,
c.Coating materials, colored, their dividing, composing coatings film
d.Formation of coating films
e.Technology and quality properties of coating films
f.The ways of finishing materials applications, their curing and drying
g.Testing of finishing materials finished surfaces quality
h.Hygiene, ecology and safety at work
i.Foils and laminates, their production, properties and their treatment

2.Adhesives (allowance 5/8)
 
a.Theory of adhesion
b.Adhesives based on natural materials
c.Synthetic adhesives, containing, and properties and using particular types
d.Waterborne dispersions adhesives
e.Melt adhesives
f.The way of adhesives curing and coating
g.Testing of adhesives properties and adhesive and bonded joints

3.Plastics and makromoleculars chemistry (allowance 3/2)
 
a.Thermo mechanical curve
b.Basic reactions of polymers chemistry
c.Basic types of plastics, rubbers, their properties and samples of using in wood treatment and furniture industry

-Abilities in measuring and testing the physical-mechanical properties of adhesives, coating materials and finished surface
-Basic comprehensive survey of plastics, adhesives and rating materials applied in the furniture production and wood treatment industry
-Comprehensive survey of the modern and historical technologies of the surfaces finishing applied during the finishing wood based products
-Informative knowledge of wood materials, finished products, auxiliary materials, fittings and glass used for making furniture.
-Orientation in problems of the testing of furniture, use of and familiarity with relevant standards
-The technical tests of new technologies in wood processing and furniture manufacturing

Assessment methods:
Course is successfully completed after completing 11 laboratory exercises , submission protocols from these exercises and an oral examination. / oral examination consists of two ( three) questions. The first question is from furniture coatings ( paints , method completion, quality requirements for completion), the second question is in the field of adhesives and adhesive technology -based materials and the third of the plastics used in the manufacture of furniture.Student must be in the oral test - show good orientation and knowledge in the field.
