Aims of the course:
Primary aim of the course is to develop the ability of the students to identify present social problems, to grasp their wider context and their influences in terms of fully interconnected world-system. Students will acquire theoretical knowledge of social processes and phenomena applicable in the solving of practical social problems. Graduates of the course are practically able abide by the rules of modern knowledges about creative work.
Students will be able to to identify, describe and analyse basic social phenomena and their aspects relevant to social development: social institutions and social action, social systems and social organizations; an ability to prepare simple sociological research.
 
Course contents:
1.Sociology as a social science. (allowance 3/0)
2.The rise of sociology. (allowance 3/0)
3.Social action - socialization, encuturation, aculturation,social instituion, social role, social groups, social control. (allowance 3/0)
4.Social action - Marx, Durkheim, Weber, Schutz, Goffman, Habermas. (allowance 3/0)
5.Social action - social capital, social mobility, contemporary tendencies (allowance 3/0)
6.Social systems - consensus,conflict, interpretative (allowance 3/0)
7.Social organization as a social system. (allowance 3/0)
8.Sociological research - situation,strategies and methods (allowance 3/0)
9.Quantitative research and explanation. (allowance 6/0)
10.Qualitative research and understanding (allowance 6/0)

The course is finished with written didactic test. Maximum points for test is 30, minimum is 15 points (50%).
