Aim of the course and learning outcomes:
In this course, students will acquire a knowledge about combustion engines, which are the principal source of energy for mobile machines. In this course, attention is paid to theory, functions, construction and measuring of operational properties of vehicle motors. Using the acquired knowledge of combustion engines, students will be able to decide
 
Course content:
1.
Combustion engines and their operational and ecological properties (allowance 2/2)
2.
Fuels used in combustion and alternative engines, their evaluation and operational properties (allowance 2/2)
3.
Combustion of carbohydrate fuels, their thermochemistry and coefficient of air excess (allowance 2/2)
4.
Working cycles of piston combustion engines (ideal, calculated and real) (allowance 2/2)
5.
Thermal balance of vehicle engines (allowance 2/2)
6.
Efficiency of vehicle engines (chemical, thermic, indicated, mechanic, volume and solidity ratio of p V diagrams (allowance 2/2)
7.
Supercharging of vehicle engines (reasons and methods) (allowance 2/2)
8.
Creation and burning of fuel mixtures in ignition and diesel engines. Facilities for creation of air-fuel mixtures (allowance 2/2)
9.
Exhalations in ignition and diesel engines and possibilities of their reduction (allowance 2/2)

Assessment methods:
Compulsory attendance at exercises. Hand over and defense of protocols assigned during the semester. Final written and oral examination, a total duration 50 min.Written examination, calculation of given examples. To meet the requirements min. 70 points out of 100. Overall rating, the sum of points from written and oral at least 65%.
