Aims of the course:
An attention will be paid to production, properties and utilization of classical and modern materials and surface protection.

2.General theory of materials (allowance 0/0)
a.atomic structure of the complexes
b.Thermodynamics of materials
c.equilibrium phases and phase transformation

3.Management of change of properties of material (allowance 0/0)
a.influence of technology of production, alloying and heat treatment on the properties of the material
b.the influence of external conditions on the properties of the material
c.An overview of technical materials

4.An overview of technical materials (allowance 0/0)
a.metallic materials
b.technical ceramics
c.plastics, rubber, wood
d.layers and coatings

5.The choice of materials for machinery and equipment (allowance 0/0)
Learning outcomes and competences:
Generic competences:

Specific competences:
-Ability to analyze influence of chemical composition, structure, technological processing and environmental conditions on the properties of materials.
-Ability to design both traditional and modern materials for construction of machinery and equipment
-Ability to select the optimum materials and heat treatment for different machine parts when considering technological and expenses aspects
-Knowledge of technical materials according to Czech and European standards
-The ability to determine the causes of damage or degradation of machinery

Assessment methods:
Credit is awarded after successful completion of two written tests (at least 60% success rate). The test includes didactic test on the computer (min. 60% success rate) and an oral part, where the student draws two or three questions.
