Aims of the course:
Introduction to the current state of knowledge and the consequences of making transgenic mammals construction and cloning for students interested in this specialized area of biotechnology.
Course contents:
1.The importance of transgenic mammals (growth, resistance, quality, biofermenters, xenotransplantation, etc.) (allowance 2/0)
2.Recombinant DNA technology (allowance 2/0)
3.Gene constructs (expression vectors) (allowance 2/0)
4.Creation of genetically modified stem cells (gene therapy) (allowance 2/0)
5.Creation of genetically modified germinal cells (germinal transgenesis) (allowance 2/0)
6.Methods of gene transfer (allowance 2/0)
7.Examples of transgenic animals: model organisms and farm animals (allowance 4/0)
8.Animal cloning (allowance 4/0)
9.Cell therapy (allowance 2/0)
10.Legal and ethical aspects of cloning and transgenesis, discussion (allowance 2/0)

Assessment methods:
Oral exam.
The student answers two questions. Theoretical knowledge in accordance with the syllabus is required. Student prepares and performs a PowerPoint presentation on a selected topic subject.
