Aims of the course:
The goal of the course is to identify opportunities in alternative energy sources application in agriculture and following sectors. Wider relations in AES application, namely biomass origin ones will be presented on theoretical analyses. Further, technologies and their operational factors in terms of economical evaluation will lead to make students able to bring self-decision making. Besides, ecological impacts of energy sector are emphasized for a sustainable establishing of energy sources, their technologies and energy intensity.
Furthermore, besides the principal introduction of individual technologies, the other goal of the course is to identify entrepreneur opportunities in the field in connection with legislation rules on the EU policies as well as national ones.
Student outcomes then mean an orientation in energy flows problems, energy sources structures in connection with environmental indicators; and finally the course improves the abilities of decision making in business matters in terms of energetics.

1.Introduction to Energy - Concepts and Terminology. Energy, ecology and economy interrelationship. (allowance 2/2)
2.Energy, its forms and transformations. (allowance 1/1)
3.The Earth's energy budget, the basic distribution of energy resources on Earth. (allowance 1/1)
4.Energy and impacts on the environment. Sustainable development in terms of energy. (allowance 1/1)
5.Agriculture in terms of energy flows. (allowance 2/2)
6.EU Policies and RES Support Legislation. (allowance 2/2)
7.Energy intensity of production, transport and other activities - calculation. (allowance 1/1)
8.Solar Energy - Direct technical utilization and use through natural processes. (allowance 2/2)
9.Low energy and passive houses, heat pumps. (allowance 2/2)
10.Potential of biomass for energy purposes, possibilities and trends. (allowance 2/2)
11.Thermochemical and biochemical transformations of biomass. (allowance 2/2)
12.Production and use of biofuels as propellants for vehicles. (allowance 2/2)
13.Cogeneration production of electricity and heat. (allowance 2/2)
14.Overall economic evaluation and application of renewable resources in the Czech Republic and in the agro-sector. (allowance 2/2)

Assessment methods:
The course is finished by oral exam (40 % of final mark). Credit awarded is required for a participation in oral exam. Credit is awarded based on oral presentation (0-10 points) contribution 10% to final evaluation; further, on handing out and defense of a case study (0-10 points - 20% of final evaluation); and finally, on passing of electronic test (minimum 40%, while subtracting points for wrong answers) contribution 30% to final result. All named activities are compulsory for passing of the course.
