Aims of the course:
The goal of the course is to get students acquainted with basic terms in the scope of energetics and technics in connection with economy and provide them an orientation in energy sources structure, energy demands and energy savings in connection with ecological aspects. Meaning of renewable energy sources is emphasized, namely business opportunities in the field on the base of legislation and economical conditions.
 
Course contents:
1.Energetics (allowance 8/6)
 
a.Fundamental concepts and terminology. The relationship of energy, ecology and economy.
b.Available energy sources and energy intensity. Energy Saving Potentials.
c.Sustainability in terms of energy and environment.
d.Ecological and economic aspects of the use of alternative energy sources.

2.Renewable energy resources (allowance 16/6)
 
a.Technical utilization of Solar energy.
b.Indirect solar energy utilizaton by natural processes.
c.RES legislation.

3.Technology for transportation and building equipment (allowance 4/2)
 
a.Energy and environmental features of drivelines and development perspective.
b.Fuels for mobile means.
c.Combined heat and power.
d.Heat pumps.

 
Learning outcomes and competences:
Generic competences:

Specific competences:
 
-Ability of an independent decision making in terms of entrepreneurial opportunities in the energy sector
-Ability to orientate in problems of flows of energy, energy sources and their relations in connection with environmental issues
-Competence in evaluation of energy intensity
-Knowledge of relation between energy efficiency and economical indicators

Assessment methods:
Credit is awarded on the basis of case studies (20% rating), seminar oral presentation (10%), and successful completion of term test - minimum is 40% successful response (30%). Course completion is by an oral exam for about 25 minutes. Final evaluation of the course is based on continuous assessment, evaluation of case studies and results of oral examinations (40%).
