Aims of the course:
The goal is to provide information about wood structure, its chemical composition and physical and mechanical properties. Students will get a skill to identify common European wood species both on macroscopic and microscopic level.

c.Structure of lignified cell wall
d.Cell wall pitting

4.Microscopic structure of wood (allowance 4/12)
 
a.Softwoods
b.Hardwoods

5.Wood defects (allowance 2/2)
6.Moisture related wood properties (allowance 2/0)
 
a.Wood moisture content
b.Water in wood
c.Moister content determination methods for wood
d.Water absorbing property of wood

Assessment methods:
credit
- at least 80% attendance
- 2 tests during the course (max. 40 points for both tests, at least 22 points)
- submission of a project during the course
- practical test of wood identification -- macroscopic samples (at least 8 of 10 samples)
- practical test of wood identification -- microscopic samples (at least 2 of 3 samples)
- practical test of wood identification -- veneers(at least 8 z 10)

- prerequisite: credit is compulsory for final exam participation
- form: e-test in University Information System
- duration: 35 min.
- number of questions: 50 where 3 of them must be absolutely correct
- test evaluation: min. 70 %
