Aim of the course and learning outcomes:
Knowledge of trees and shrubs as living organisms, creating especially native forests or man-made outplantings, tree species important from the viewpoint of forestry. Identifying important tree species, according to morphological characters and rightly named their by the scientific nomenclature. Knowledge of using the trees.
Course content:
Morphology, taxonomy, chorology and ecology of woody plants with respect to home tree species important from the viewpoint of forestry. The content, scope and role of forest dendrology. Taxonomy of trees. Vegetation belts and zonation including altitude vegetation zones. Development of woody species on the territory of the CR in the postglacial period. Original tree species composition and the perspective. Tree species specially protected by Law. Natural ranges of tree species, migration. Species variability: intraspecific, geographical, ecological, cultivars. Ecological relations of trees in forest stands. Systematic survey and distribution of coniferous and broadleaved species in various geographical regions of the world. Introduction of trees - arborescent species and their potential use for forestry and landscape management in Central Europe. (allowance 0/0)

Assessment methods:
Credit - practical knowledge of tree species: determinated 80% species from each group
1. Broadleaves according to herbarium specimens (memorized all kinds of exercises)
2. Conifers - fresh branches (memorized all kinds of exercises)

- final examination (length of about 20/15 minutes, written test (60% of the total mark) / oral 40% . A list of test circuits is available in the Document Server UIS
