Aims of the course:
To know the basis of current scientific knowledge of biological and socio-cultural nature of woody species in terms of their use in landscape architecture (LA).
1. Knowledge of the nature of properties of woody species relevant for their use in LA.
2. The ability to determine basic range of woody species used in our country in LA and the knowledge of their basic properties (see section 1).
3. The ability of multi-criteria selection of woody species: function x habitat x technological aspects x economical aspects x possible adverse effects.
Course contents:
1.General part (allowance 0/0)
a.History of woody species on Earth.
b.Taxonomy and nomenclature.
c.Selected questions of morphology, woody species anatomy and physiology -- their importance for woody species use in the field of garden and landscape architecture (GLA).
d.Space-time functional categories of woody species and their use in GLA.
e.Characteristics important for GLA -- compositional, ecological (including taxa selection for different habitat types), cultivation and other (including adverse effects on human health and on its surrounding).
f.Inventory and classification of woody species, determining of dendrological potential of woody species vegetation elements needed for GLA.
g.Introduction and acclimatization of woody species (including the possibility and restrictions on the use of non-indigenous taxa).
h.Protection of woody species gene pool.

2.Special part: woody species and their properties relevant for the field of garden and landscape architecture in our conditions. (allowance 0/0)
