Aims of the course:
To provide information on the use of genomic technologies and methods in the study of genomes and the use of molecular genetics in animal breeding and in research of human health. Presentation of the latest knowledge and techniques in research of genes and genomes.
Course contents:
1.The importance of genome study in human and animals (allowance 2/0)
2.Basic techniques in molecular biology (allowance 2/1)
3.Manipulation of nucleic acid (allowance 2/1)
4.Production of recombinant DNA (cloning), construction of gene libraries (allowance 4/6)
5.DNA amplification: PCR, AS-PCR, real-time PCR (allowance 4/2)
6.Methods for detection of DNA polymorphisms and molecular genetic markers (allowance 2/0)
7.Structural genomics and basic approaches in genome analysis (allowance 2/0)
8.Determination of parentage and identification of individuals (DNA fingerprinting)
Molecular diagnostics (of gene variants, genetic disorders), Pathogen detection (identification, typization)

9.Functional genomics - study of expression of genetic information (allowance 3/1)
10.Bioinformatics - genome databases and software (allowance 1/0)

Assessment methods:
The exam consists of a written and an oral part. The written part consists of 23 questions. The written examination is reserved for 50 minutes. Each question is evaluated by 2 points. At least 30 points are needed to progress to the oral part of the exam. At the oral part, the student responds to the two questions. Theoretical knowledge according to the syllabus and the knowledge of laboratory exercises, including an explanation of the results, are required. It is necessary to submit the protocols of laboratory exercises.
