Aim of the course and learning outcomes:
The aim of the course is to improve and extend the knowledge of vocabulary, grammar and conversational skills on the upper-intermediate level. Writing skills are developed through exercises, tests and presentations. The emphasis is put on understanding more difficult texts and listening as well as on speaking skills and communication on the upper-intermediate level.
After the completion of the course, the participants should attain the level corresponding to B1-B2 of the Common European Framework for Languages. Students will understand spoken word about current events (TV, film), will be able to converse with native speakers about familiar topics and express their opinion. They will be able to write detailed texts.

Assessment methods:
Requirements: the subject is concluded by an examination consisting of a written test (duration 60 minutes, content lexis, grammar, translation which makes 60% out of the total grade and an oral presentation on a given topic followed by a discussion with the examiner which makes another 40% of the total grade).
Course requirements:
- Compulsory 80% active attendance
- Submission of a seminar paper during the semester
- Final examination; minimum score at both parts of the exam is 60%.
Successful completion of the course includes knowledge of grammar and terminology of studied topics.
