Aims of the course:
The goal of the course is to provide fundamentals of the image processing. An emphasis will lay in practical work with image data to provide students skills for solving various problems that are common at the college, especially problems from students's final theses (wood anatomy, composite materials, arboriculture etc.). Students will meet a few image processing tools, but the most of the work will be done in open-source application ImageJ
Course contents:
1.Introduction to image analysis, acquisition techniques (allowance 0/2)
2.Tools of image analysis (open-source and proprietary), sensors for image acqusition (allowance 0/2)
3.Introduction to image analysis in ImageJ, basic image parameters (allowance 0/2)
4.Histogram and its analysis, LUT tables, gamma correaction (allowance 0/2)
5.Thresholding and binarization (allowance 0/2)
6.Filtering and edge detection (allowance 0/2)
7.Segmentation and other techniques (allowance 0/2)
8.Basic operation with 3D images from CT scans and neutron imaging (allowance 0/2)
9.Image analysis in Wood anatomy (WinCell) (allowance 0/2)
10.Image analysis in Dendrochronology (WinDendro and Past)Image analysis in Dendrochronology (WinDendro and Past) (allowance 0/2)
11.Use of Image analysis in mechanics of materials (allowance 0/2)
12.Videoanalysis of kinematic phenomenons (allowance 0/2)
Learning outcomes and competences:

Specific competences:
-Ability to apply of branch knowledge for solutions of practice wood technology problems
-Ability to independently measure and evaluate experimental data.
-Ability to perform histogram analysis and threshold binarization of image
-Skill for measuring of object dimensions in image
-Skill that enable to calculate count of particles (objects) in the image

Assessment methods:
Course will be ended by obtaining a credit consists of seminar thesis and test of knowledge.
The seminar thesis will have cca 3 - 5 pages and will be focused on image processing in a specific industry application.
The test of knowledge will have 30 questions, some of them with anwers in the sentances and some of them with answers in the form of check test.
