Aim of the course and learning outcomes:
The aim is to acquaint students with economic implications of globalization and integration processes in agrarian sector, with causes and impacts of agribusiness formation and their impact on the new model of agriculture in the framework of commodity verticals.
Acquire knowledge and apply methodological approaches to studying specific commodity chain dynamics in the development of regional and global agricultural markets.
Course content:
1.Globalization and its impact on development in the agrarian sector (allowance 15/0)
Expressions of globalization in the agrarian sector
Specifics of agricultural production and foodstuffs consumption in shaping of agricultural markets, types of markets, entities, links, categories
Agribusiness - the basic theory, the demand and supply determined models

2.Economic context of integration of agriculture with other sector in the framework of agribusiness (allowance 15/0)
Forms and consequences of imperfect competition in agribusiness
b.Principle of commodity verticals and networks, market structure, approaches for expressions of market forces
Coordination of activities, the framework and the role of contracts: approaches in terms of ownership, transaction costs and sharing / reduction of risk

The role of the downstream processing and distribution phase of food commodity verticals (allowance 10/0)
a.Characteristics of the food industry and its branches
The size structure of enterprises in the food industry and its branches
Distribution channels - basic types and characteristics

Assessment methods:
The subject is terminated with written examination. Credit is given on the basis of student activity during tutorials, participation on discussions about particular topics and presentation of seminar paper - max. 30 pts. Students have to obtain the credit before examination, the obtained points are included in the final exam result.
Conditions for course completion:
1) credit (max. 30 pts)
2) written exam test (min. 35 pts, max. 70 pts)
