Aim of the course and learning outcomes:
Within the course, student chooses thesis topic and finds a supervisor, and develops thesis proposal. The thesis supervisor prepares the thesis assignments, and submits it for approval to the head of the department and the study program supervisor.
During the lectures and exercises, students will get acquainted with the requirements for the master's thesis at FBE MENDELU and with the principles of academic writing.
Study outputs:
- the student understands the process of assigning the final thesis at FBE MENDELU
- the student knows the principles of conducting research
- the student understands the principles of academic writing
- the student understands the importance of proper work with literature
- the student is able to use literature and cite in his own text properly
Course content:
Diploma thesis, topic selection and other formal steps, dean's rules for thesis, intent of the thesis (allowance 4/0)
Specification of aim and methods in diploma thesis (allowance 2/0)
Referencing in scientific outcomes, citation ethics (allowance 4/0)
Formal layout of diploma thesis (allowance 4/0)

Assessment methods:
The student receives the preliminary completion for the approved assignment of the diploma thesis. The supervisor of the diploma thesis then assigns the credits at the end of the examination period ending the course for meeting the conditions set by him - typically related to preparing literature review, compilation of a suitable dataset, etc.

The course can be studied during an internship abroad - in such case, student has to agree with his supervisor on an appropriate way of communication and has to be careful about the deadlines (student signature is required on the assignment before the end of the teaching period of the semester).
