Aims of the course:
On the basis of the knowledge of genetics to acquaint the audience with classic and modern breeding methods and procedures. To show the possibility of the use of the genetic potential of varieties in practice.
 
Course contents:
1.Introduction and basic concepts (allowance 6/2)
 
a.The status of breeding in the context of agriculture, the importance of breeding, history and development of the plants in the world and in our counry,
(c). of gene resources. Effects of propagation for the choice of breeding methods and procedures, techniques, and procedures.
b.basic terms, genetic structure of the cultivars, the variability of cultural plants, the characteristics and cultural flora.
c.the main stages of the breeding process, genetic resources, centres of cultural plants origin, conservation and preservation

2.Classic techniques, methods and procedures in the plant breeding (allowance 6/4)
 
a.Techniques and methods of selection.
b.Breeding procedures for self-pollinated, for cross-pollinated, and for vegetatively propagated species. The particularities of the biennial and perennial species.
c.The nature of heterosis, the theory explaining the use of the heterosis, the effect of heterosis in plant breeding, selection procedures for the breeding of hybrids F1. Pollen sterility, genetic determination male sterility, the use of male sterility in plant breeding of hybrids F1.

3.Alternative and new selection procedures (allowance 6/3)
 
a.Induced mutagenesis in plant breeding, used mutagens, methods of action.
b.Distant hybridization, the causes of noncrossability of the species and the possibility of overcoming it, properties of distant hybrids.
c.Characteristics of the polyploids, the use of polyploidy in plant breeding, the method of obtaining polyploids in the breeding, use aneuploids and haploids in plant breeding.
d.Breeding on resistance to diseases and pests, genetic nature resistance.
e.The use of gene manipulation in plant breeding, the basic strategy of gene manipulation, transgenosis, transgenic plants, DNA fingerprinting. Use of genetically modified plants.

4.The breeding praxis and marketing of varieties (allowance 2/1)
 
a.The plant breeders documentation, evaluation of field trials, cultivar testing.
b.
b.Cultivar's reproduction, seeds production and trading.
