Course title: Utility Plants of the Subtropics and Tropics
Semester: SS 2018/2019

Course objective:
The subject will provide the basic knowledges about the agriculture and forestry in tropics and deeper knowledges about important groups of utility plants of tropics and subtropics, its characteristics,ways of planting ant use of its products.
 
Course content:
1.The course deals use of tropical and subtropical plant products. It dwells as well on ecology of tropical and subtropical forests in general, their species diversity and chorology. Main emphasis in particular consist in use of most important plant species according to product category: (allowance 0/0)
 
a.Medicinal and poisonous plants
b.Drug plants and stimulants
c.Edible plants (fruits, vegetables, cereals, pulses, oil-plants, spices)
d.Technical plants (timber, fibre, dye, tannins, resins and gums)

Course completion:
Credit / examination. Students must understand the fundamental issues of agriculture and forestry in the tropics, to know the most important crops of the tropics and subtropics, their characteristics, methods of cultivation and uses. The exam contain of defense of seminary work, written test and species determination. Minimum eleven from total twenty points is necessary to pass the exam.
