The university information system Mendel University in Brno is an extensive, complex and integrated tool supporting the principal university activities - educating, science and research. It is adapted to operate both in the Czech and Slovak legislative environments and it cooperates with a range of operating information systems implemented both at Czech and Slovak universities and colleges. The information system is intended for a European credit study environment (ECTS), where the decentralization of information and agendas administration is accentuated, i.e. student is responsible for his/her study, teacher enters information to the information system, the university management develops the necessary sets itself. The University Information System is in a permanent process of development prompted by the requirements of the university management, teachers, students and its other users. In view of parametrization of the individual university regulations (due to frequent changes in the internal legislation), this system is also implementable in the environment of a different Czech or Slovak universities or colleges.
Other universities have the option of hiring the University Information System in the form of outsourcing, i.e. a service operated in one or more years where the lessor is responsible for filling in the information system with data, their updating and daily running of the service concerning the users' work, while the provider is in charge of the technical running of the system and the database, of system tuning, of training the key users, of adjusting the system to the needs of the school, of connecting the system to other information systems, of data conversions and of further development of the University Information System.
