Aims of the course:
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the history of the International Permaculture movement, the fundamental pillars of permaculture ethics and basic Permaculture principles formulated by David Holmgren on the basis of studies of successful projects of the PC. Students will be familiar with many examples of applications of the PC principles and techniques and acquire basic knowledge and skills that can help them in dealing with issues related to the development of sustainable systems in conditions of limited energy resources.
Course contents:
1.History of permaculture and its philosophy. (allowance 0/2)
a.The main personality of the founder and other important personalities, developing permaculture
b.Basic definitions and content development permaculture
c.Information resources and performance of the global system of education and experience

2.The history of the organization Permaculture CS ( Czech - Slovak ) and the development of permaculture in Central Europe (allowance 0/6)
a.selected permaculture projects in the Czech and Slovak Republic
b.permaculture demonstration project - excursion around Brno - with the introduction of the PC main techniques
c.permaculture demonstration project - excursion to the exit as possible - or increasing subsidies

3.Basic characteristics of the PC projects (allowance 0/2)
a.permaculture ethics and 12 principles of Permaculture Design defined by David Holmgren.
b.Permaculture beyond sustainability
c.Permaculture Design

4.Basic philosophical principles of permaculture, defined by B. Mollison, reflected in practice. (allowance 0/2)
a.Collaboration with nature, importance of wildeness, the use of perennial and self-seeding vegetables
b.Maximum benefit with minimum effort, finding solutions for problems
c.No-tillage crop production techniques by Fukuoka and Bonfils

5.Basic principles of Permaculture Design (allowance 0/0)
a.practical training input-output analysis
b.multiplicity of resources, efficient use of energy,
c.utilization of biological resources

6.Procedure for drafting Permaculture Design. Specific training (allowance 0/0)
a.Zoning Land - by spheres of influence and performance, energy-efficient planning.

c.rapid assessment technique and long-term development

7.Utilization of appropriate technology (allowance 0/2)
a.Options and examples of the use of solar , hydro and wind energy
b.Composting toilets,
c.Low-energy housing , innovative construction technologies based on local resources - brief information for the state of our country and the world.

8.Using the model of succession and stacking. (allowance 0/2)
a.Integrated production systems - agroforestry
b.Model of forest garden
d.Vertical systems of growing plants

9.Utilization and increased diversity. Diversity in general. (allowance 0/2)
a.Urban permaculture. Examples from the world. Roof gardens. Community gardens.
b.Synergie; basic principles of mixed cultures - practical training
c.Polycultures - principles , guidelines

10.Utilization of edges (allowance 0/2)
a.Special techniques of agricultural production in arid and extremely barren areas.
b.Principles of creating and maintaining soil fertility, recycling methods
c.Small intensive systems; raised beds, high beds

11.Permaculture water management systems (allowance 0/2)
a.Water in the landscape
b.Rainwater designs
c.Techniques to use gray water (from bathrooms)

12.Application of Permaculture in building human communities (allowance 0/2)
a.Local Economic Trade Systems, bioregions
b.Demonstration of the projects " Transition towns"
c.application of permaculture in commercial and large-scale agricultural systems

Assessment methods:
The condition of credit will be processing one essay and successful completion of two tests. The course will conclude with an oral exam.
