Aims of the course:
The aim of the subject is to introduce students to the dog ethology.
 
Course contents:
1.Innate and learning behavior (allowance 2/2)
2.Visual, voice and odor signals (allowance 2/2)
3.Perception of visual, vocal and odor signals transmitted by man and dog (allowance 2/2)
4.Dog pack behavior (allowance 2/2)
5.Dog territorial behavior (allowance 2/2)
6.Food behavior (allowance 2/2)
7.Dog bites (allowance 4/4)
8.House soiling (allowance 1/1)
9.Dog fear (allowance 1/1)
10.Dog jumping, chewing, barking and rolling (allowance 2/2)
11.Dog training (allowance 4/4)
 
Learning outcomes and competences:
Generic competences:

Specific competences:
 
-A capability to apply basic biological knowledge concerning cynology in practice
-Competences to solve behavioural problems in dogs
-Knowledge on the biology of nutrition and reproduction in dogs
-Knowledge on visual, vocal and odour communication in dogs
-Skills in the detection of the signs of oestrus and parturition in bitches
-Skills to search and process scientific studies on dog biology from licensed databases of Mendel University

Year of study: Not applicable - the subject could be chosen at anytime during the course of the programme.
Work placement: There is no compulsory work placement in the course unit.

Assessment methods:
Evaluation of participation in seminars; preparation and defence of a seminar work on the biology of dogs are compulsory for credit. Credit is compulsory for final exam participation. The course is finished with 30 minutes oral exam (100% of the total mark).
