Aims of the course:
To provide students knowledge and intellectual skills of livestock genetics. Identify genetic variability and genetic mechanisms at molecular and population genetics. Interpret these findings and use them as a basis for targeted improvement of livestock (animal breeding).
 
Course contents:
1.Cattle genetics (allowance 10/10)
 
a.Genome of cattle. Mapping and sequencing of cattle genome.
b.Genetics of qualitative traits, imunogenetice, biochemical genetics in cattle.
c.Genetics of production and quality of beef: heritability, correlation, QTL and ETL, candidate genes associated with production and quality of cattle.
d.Genetics of reproduction of cattle: heritability, correlation, QTL and ETL, candidate genes of reproduction.

2.Pig genetics (allowance 10/10)
 
a.Genome of pig. Current affairs in international projects: mapping and sequencing of pig's genome.
b.Genetics of qualitative traits, imunogenetice, biochemical genetics in pig.
c.Genetics of production and quality of pork: heritability, correlation, QTL and ETL, candidate genes associated with production and quality of pork.
d.Genetics of reproduction of pig: heritability, correlation, QTL and ETL, candidate genes of reproduction.

3.Genetics in animal breeding of cattle and pig. MAS and genomics selection. (allowance 4/4)
