Course objective:
The aim of the course is to provide students with the basic knowledge of Production/Operations Management with the focus on planning, managing, and controll of processes, and inventory management. Special attention is paid to operations planning and management and quality management. The course will enable students to acquire the basic knowledge of the principles of operational processes in production and service systems, and to adopt the techniques of planning, management and control of the processes within these systems.

Course completion:
Final written examination is done in the form of answers to questions on lecured theory - max. 60 points.
Student is classified based on points reached:
89 to 100 points - "A" (excellent)
77 to 88 points - "B" (very good plus)
65 to 76 points - "C" (very good)
53 to 64 points - "D" (good plus)
40 to 52 points - "E" (good)
Less than 40 points - "F" (failed).
 
Course methods: Lectures - 28 hours, seminars - 14 hours, individual study of literature, ëlaborating two projects, solution and oral presentation of case studies at the seminars.
Students elaborate two evaluated assignments representing (together with evaluation of their activity at the seminars) 40 % of their overall evaluation: 1 - transformation processes - individual project focused on analysis of selected processes within a selected organization from the viewpoint of the inputs, transformation process, outputs, customers, possible performance measures, and operational objectives in the extent of min. 1500 words. Max. 15 points. 2 - case study "Capacity planning" - group project (2-3 students) focused on solution of capacity issues of a unit described in the case study. Answers to questions substantiated by extensive calculations. Max. 20 points. 3 - activity at seminars - subjective evaluation of an active participation in discussions. Max. 5 points.
